Leo's Yurt Story

About a year ago my friend Rob sent me an email with a link and the message "I couldn't resist sending this to you." I replied: "Hmmm. A yurt might be a good temporary cabin for the land. I will have to look into what it takes to make one."

I own a pretty little 5 acre piece of Northern California that I bought at a tax sale auction sight unseen. I haven't done much with it except plant trees that the critters eat and camp out a few times a year. My wife hates it and my city kids don't know how to amuse themselves on it, but I keep dragging them up there. One of their big complaints is a lack of roof over their heads. Could a yurt be the solution?

The link lead me to an article on yurts. I spent the next few hours surfing and learned a few things about yurts. It all sounded very interesting, very buildable and perfect for the land.

I researched designs and wanted something simple so I took an idea here and an idea there and kind of came to my own thing. I then started building it and came to something different again!

To be continued ...
