Mary and Mom: Weinie [Mon Jul 25 07:10:07 2005|1122300607|]
We just wanted you to know that you are definitely NOT a weinie, we think you have accomplished an incredible feat getting as far as you have. This just means that you have things in perspective. One of the things I worried me about this trip is that you would get obsessed with finishing, regardless of the consequences. I am glad to find that, as Dad would say, "You have your head screwed on right". I am proud of you, Mom is proud of you, and Dad would have been proud of you too. When you think about, what you have accomplished is even more amazing than what Lance accomplished, I mean he trained 6-8 hours a day for 15 years. You have made it on minimal training, some natural athletic talent and a lot of determination. I'll buy the champagne!

Space Shuttle crews are debriefed after their mission. So should you. Here are a few questions to ponder:
1. Do you drink Gatorade or Powerade? What is your favorite flavor?
2. Do your legs keep going when you stop?
3. What was your most bizzare thought?
4. What was the most bizzare road kill you saw?
5. Do you dream about tires and spokes?
6. What is one thing you wish you had taken?
7. What is one thing you wish you left behind?
8. Do you like your bike? Does your bike like you?
9. What was the worst song that went through your mind?
10. Did you find yourself? Did you find America? (Simon and Garfunkel want to know)
11. Your thoughts on evil truck and cars?
12. Did you watch Buffy in your motel rooms? Really?
13. Where was the most beautiful vista?
14. What was your scariest moment?
15. What conclusions do you have? What did you learn?
16. We are worried about your "trophy wife" comments. I guess Laurie finally threatened divorce.
17. Where are you going next year?
18. And finally...Does your butt still hurt?
Talk to you soon...Karl
Bob Lo: don't stop - just do it. [Mon Jul 25 05:32:00 2005|1122294720|]
Leo,How can you take a month off to ride from Toronto to San Francisco and stop at Nevada? Ride 200 miles a day if you have to. If I had the physical stamina that you have, I wouldn't quit. Remember the days in University when we had to pull all nighters to get problem sets done. Well, this is the time for the all nighter. You've set a goal, and now you have to put the extra effort into doing it. Phone the company that you work for. Get a couple more days off which gets you the weekend as well and get your sore butt pedalling into San Francisco!Bob
Linobrien: glad you made it to Salt Lake City [Mon Jul 25 05:19:09 2005|1122293949|]
Leo,I was wondering what you was going to do knowing you wasn't going to make it to San Francisco by the 28th. It okay. You've done an outstanding job considering the circumstances. I wasn't aware you could ride on the Interstate. It still jags across Nevada but at least there are more places to stop for food and lodging. There is still long distances between towns.Sounds like you've met some wonderful people to help you out.I too, was concerned when you hadn't posted your blog for a couple of days. I trusted that you couldn't find some wireless connection or too poop to type. I'm hoping that my research about crossing Nevada determined your decision to go North. More trucks and traffic but I hope more smoother riding.Keep us informed.Lin
Mike: Top 10 reasons for looking forward to the 88-temple 1500km hike in Shikoku [Mon Jul 25 03:05:28 2005|1122285928|]
10. You won't be lonely
9. The food should be a lot better
8. It's a pilgrimmage - you'll score spiritual points
7. Your butt won't hurt
6. By the end of it, you'll actually look forward to a hamburger
5. Gel-pak gloves would only be a fashion accessory
4. Streets and Trips not required
3. They don't sell yellow Gatorade in Japan
2. The media won't be full of stories about a professional hiker covering twice the distance in half the time while you're walking.
And the number 1 reason for looking forward to the 88-temple 1500km hike in Shikoku: No rumble strips!
If you make it into Nevada you'll have ridden in every state on the route, so you can sort of argue that you kind of almost finished anyway. I was wondering what you were planning to do about work.
