Arrived Detroit at 6AM yesterday and we got picked up at the airport by my sister-in-law Jane. Thanks to her for not only getting up at 5AM but also taking Laurie's call at midnight while asleep. I drove around the various Grosse Pointes - for some reason there are about ten varieties: Park, Farms, Woods and just plain - looking for some place to buy a cheap bike rack. I ended up getting something at a store I can't mention (I work for walmart.com) that used to be very big in the Detroit area. In a zombie state we drove to Toronto. For some reason in Canada, they have signs on the freeway that point to services and there aren't any ... you drive along some road for 10 miles and end up in a subdivision. Eventually you end up at a Tim Horton's Donuts - any road in Ontario will take you to a Tim Horton's. The Canadians are thinking, "So?", the Americans are thinking, "What is he talking about?".

Today I checked the web page and was pleasantly surprised to see many messages from friends and family. Thanks for your thoughts and, yes, my butt is gonna hurt. Thought I'd share one with you:

Myles ...

i dare you to wear the same pair of cotton undies the whole way..
i'll boil them up and drink the soup if you do..
i am not kidding...

This refers to some hiking trips where I wore cotton shorts and they rubbed holes in my upper thighs. The wrong equipment can be really painful. It would be almost worth it, though.

I'm off to a bike shop to see if they can do some work on the bike .. the wheel got a little warped in shipment. It also wouldn't hurt to get a few other things tuned up.
