So ... notice the extra names in the title? Things are different this time. Besides being much older this time around, there are 4 of us. Where'd I find 3 couragous individuals to willing to push their bodies to the limit? It began by reviewing the qualifications of many, many highly talented riders. I asked the most deserving the hardest questions; grilled them on their desire; prodded to find out what made them tick. In the end I selected the only three who didn't back out.
The plan is a little different this time around, too. We will have a car with us. The plan is for many 120 mile days and we will take turns throughout the day driving the car. Haven't quite figured out how all that's going to work but we're all engineers so we will make it work somehow.
Here's how it should go ... on June 21, 2008 I drive from San Francisco to Salt Lake City in the minivan with the bike on the rack. Meanwhile, Bob, John and Mike will be flying from Toronto. That's in Canada, eh. The Maple Leafs just hired our former coach who got fired because he couldn't get the Sharks past the second round of the playoffs in the hopes he can get them into the playoffs.
Starting June 22 we ride from town to town along I-80. The days are pretty long and most are about 120 miles. Assuming we each drive 1/4 of that we shouldn't cut into our beer drinking time too badly. Before Reno we will cut down to Fallon, NV and start following the Adventure Cycling Route to Sacramento. From Sac we will cut through the delta to the nearest BART station and cheat our way into San Francisco. We should be in town by June 28th or 29th. It's about 700 miles in 7 or 8 riding days.
